Start with what your business needs
A funding search is more useful when it starts with a specific cost or milestone. Are you testing a product, paying for cloud infrastructure or looking for specialist research expertise? Those needs lead to different kinds of support.
Write down your next milestone, the work it requires and a realistic budget. This makes it easier to judge whether a programme fits instead of chasing the largest headline amount.
Cash, credits and discounts do different jobs
A cash grant funds eligible activity under an agreement. Some grants reimburse costs after you have spent the money; others pay in stages. Check the payment schedule before relying on an award for working capital.
Cloud credits offset eligible service bills. They cannot pay a salary or office rent. Software perks reduce the cost of specific tools, usually for an introductory period. Treat the full-price renewal as part of your buying decision.
Check location and business stage early
Some opportunities are UK-wide. Others depend on where the business operates or where a project creates economic benefit. Incorporating in one place does not automatically make a project eligible somewhere else.
Programme rules can also depend on company age, trading history, sector, funding raised or investor backing. Our filters help you explore; the provider’s full criteria determine whether you can apply.
Make a shortlist you can act on
Choose a small number of programmes that match your work. Save them, read the official guidance and note the evidence each asks for. Prioritise opportunities whose benefits exceed the time, cost and commitments of applying.
- Confirm the current deadline and application window.
- Read eligible costs, payment timing and match funding rules.
- Check what you must deliver and report after an award.
- Keep a copy of the guidance used to prepare the application.
