Use your workload to choose a provider
Credits are useful when they cover services your product needs. Start by estimating the infrastructure required to reach your next milestone. Compare the relevant services, engineering effort and likely costs after credits expire.
Moving to an unfamiliar platform solely for credits can create work that outweighs the saving. Include migration, training and ongoing maintenance in the decision.
Read beyond the maximum amount
Provider programmes often have several tiers. Direct applications and partner-backed applications can offer different benefits. A programme’s maximum should never be treated as the amount every applicant receives.
AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft describe their current routes on their official programme pages. Read the requirements for the specific tier you plan to use, including prior credit limits and any investor or accelerator relationship.
Plan for expiry and exclusions
Make a simple monthly forecast of eligible usage. Check when credits activate and expire, which products they cover, and whether an offer pays the full bill or only a percentage.
Set budgets and billing alerts. Credits should help you build a sustainable service; they do not remove the need to understand what usage will cost when the benefit ends.
Keep a benefits register
Record the provider, account owner, approved amount, covered services and end date in one place. Set your own reminders to review usage and compare actual spend against the forecast.
Our saved list is a browser-based shortlist. It does not apply for, track or activate your provider benefits.
